It certainly has been a journey since the first Dual Universe organisations were officially created in early 2016 as previously mentioned in part 1 of this series. This article continues from where part 2 left off from February 2018 extending until the end of November 2018 which marked the beginning of the successful Alpha 1 launch of Dual Universe.
In that timeframe, while Pre-alpha testing raged inside Dual Universe, the large organisations continued to grow and a few new ones were created. Alliances were made and broken. New friends, acquaintances and enemies were made. The drama, usually rife within organisations, in some cases boiled over into more community-driven projects.
All told, the game wrapped within a game was afoot.
Even before players could place a single voxel in pre-alpha Dual Universe, there are those in the many established organisations that (still) know: the game has already begun.
The previous article, Dual Universe State of Affairs – Pre-alpha (part 1), gave a brief summary of the interplay between organisations from early 2016 to July 2017. This article covers events from late July 2017 till February 2018. These are events that affected the top 20 organisations of Dual Universe. Organisations marked with an asterisk (*) have since changed their name or no longer exist. Follow me below for the second pre-alpha update.
The heart of an MMO are the players. Working alone is far less effective than banding together in an organised group. It stands to reason that organisations will shape Dual Universe. And they have since mid 2016. The interplay between the organisations is very much alive with deals being made and broken, with mergers and separations, and with spies and counter-spying to list but a few. While the game may not be a reality yet, the drama very much is.
